Tierpark Suhl, zoo in Germany
Tierpark Suhl is a zoo covering about 12 hectares in a hilly landscape near the city of Suhl. It is home to around 500 animals, including wildcats, lynxes, deer, wild boars, and various bird species, along with a snake house and a special free-roaming lori enclosure.
The park has existed since 1969 and has focused on keeping and protecting animal species that are endangered in nature. Its long history in the city area has made it an important site for nature conservation and local environmental education.
The park takes its name from its location in the Suhler Schweiz, a hilly landscape in the region. Visitors experience it as an open natural space where native animals live in spacious areas that can be observed up close.
The grounds are easy to visit with well-maintained pathways and are accessible for families with strollers and people with mobility needs. Visitors can find parking nearby, a small bistro for refreshments during their visit, and dogs are welcome.
The park is proud to have the only free-access lori enclosure in Thuringia, where visitors can observe these playful parrots up close. This special feature regularly attracts visitors who want to experience these rarely seen bird species.
