Alte Synagoge, Former synagogue in Hagenow, Germany.
The Alte Synagoge in Hagenow is a restored building consisting of the main synagogue and a front house structure. The complex included residential quarters, a religious school, and a ritual bath for community use.
The building was constructed in 1828 and served as a place of worship for the Jewish community. Its interior was destroyed in 1938 during a pogrom but was later restored.
The building recalls the Jewish community that once lived and worshipped here. Today visitors find exhibitions inside that show how Jewish life looked in the city and the surrounding region.
Visitor access follows a set schedule with limited opening hours on specific days. Travelers should check ahead to ensure they can visit at times that match their plans.
Only eighteen synagogue buildings remain from the original forty-two that once stood in Mecklenburg-Vorpommern. This rarity makes this structure an important witness to Jewish history in the region.
