Below Forest Death March Memorial

The Below Forest Death March Memorial encompasses 20,000 square meters of grounds with exhibition spaces and commemorative tablets marking the routes from Oranienburg to Schwerin.

In April 1945, over 30,000 Sachsenhausen concentration camp inmates were forced to march through this area, with 16,000 held without food or water in Below Forest.

The memorial functions as an educational center where visitors learn about the experiences of concentration camp inmates through exhibits and documentation of survivor accounts.

The memorial includes accessible pathways, informational displays in multiple languages, and guided tours that explain the historical significance of different sections of the grounds.

The site contains 120 uniform commemorative tablets placed along the exact routes where thousands of prisoners walked during the final days of World War II.
