Daberburg

Daberburg is a four-story bergfried located in the center of Wittstock, built from fieldstone and brick. The tower shapes the medieval townscape with its solid construction and reflects the defensive architecture of the region.

The bergfried was built in 1438 and formed part of the defensive fortifications protecting Wittstock. The use of fieldstone and brick shows how builders combined local materials with advancing construction methods of that time.

The name Daberburg reflects the Daber family who once ruled this region. The structure displays the typical appearance of medieval defensive buildings with its thick walls made from stone and brick.

The bergfried stands at the edge of the medieval town center and is easy to reach while walking through Wittstock. You can view it from the outside and explore the old city wall that encircles the historic core.

The bergfried displays an unusual blend of gray fieldstone and red brick, making it visually stand apart from many other medieval towers. These color contrasts were not accidental but were intentional design choices by the builders of that era.
