Goldbeck Castle, Medieval castle in Goldbeck, Germany.
Goldbeck Castle is a stone fortress at the southern edge of Goldbeck village, surrounded by former water-filled moats that were once fed by the Dosse River. The building displays fortification elements from multiple periods and houses structures dating from different construction phases.
The castle was first documented in 1325 and served the Counts of Ruppin as a fortress until 1524, when it passed to Elector Joachim I. This transfer occurred after the Ruppin family line ended.
The structure represents the architectural evolution of Brandenburg fortifications, with modifications made throughout centuries to match different period styles.
The castle is located near Wittstock/Dosse and can be reached by local roads. The visit requires no special preparation, and the site is accessible on foot.
The castle houses Brandenburg's only remaining single-person passage gate, a narrow portal installed beside the main entrance. This rare architectural feature shows the security requirements of defense design.
