Sophienberg, Mountain summit in Haag, Germany
Sophienberg is a mountain summit near Haag in Upper Franconia that rises to 594 meters and represents the highest point in the Bayreuth region. The area is crossed by hiking trails that provide access to the mountain from different directions.
The mountain was originally called Culmberg and received its current name in the 17th century to honor Erdmuthe Sophie of Saxony, wife of Margrave Christian Ernst. A freedom festival took place on the summit in 1814 celebrating Napoleon's defeat at Leipzig.
The summit draws hikers and nature enthusiasts from the surrounding area who come to experience the local landscape and enjoy time outdoors. The paths pass through woods and open areas where visitors encounter the typical Upper Franconia countryside.
