St. Laurentius, Catholic church in Kenzingen, Germany

St. Laurentius is a Catholic church in the center of the old town of Kenzingen, Germany, built in a baroque style with two towers facing east. Inside, visitors find a baroque high altar, restored ceiling paintings, side altars, and a burial chapel.

The church was built shortly after the founding of Kenzingen and first mentioned in records in 1275, originally known as 'Münster unserer Lieben Frau' and built by Rudolf II of Üsenburg. It was given its baroque appearance between 1730 and 1733, and around 1900 the choir was restored to its original Gothic form while the two towers were made taller.

The north side chapel holds a painting called the Oil Mountain, made in 1734 by Johann Christian Wentzinger. Wentzinger also created the Immaculata statue, which still stands in the same church.

The church sits in the center of Kenzingen's old town and is easy to reach on foot. As it is an active place of worship, visitors should dress modestly and keep noise to a minimum.

Beneath the south tower there is a small crypt that was once used as a ringing chamber for bells. This room is rarely mentioned but gives a sense of how the church functioned in earlier centuries.
