Schloss in Pommelsbrunn

The castle in Pommelsbrunn is a stone water castle on the northern side of the village featuring walls and structures designed to use water as a defensive element. The complex is surrounded by moats and waterways that functioned as natural barriers.

The water castle was built during medieval times as a strategic stronghold to control regional trade routes in Bavaria. Over the centuries it maintained its importance as a fortified structure despite changes to its military role.

The water moats surrounding the castle remain functional and are maintained to this day for management purposes. This makes the fortified site one of the few preserved examples of its kind in the area.
