Dauphin-Sammlung, Automobile museum in Hersbruck, Germany.
The Dauphin-Sammlung is an automobile museum in Hersbruck, a small town east of Nuremberg, housed in a converted factory building from the 1960s. The museum displays dozens of vintage cars and motorcycles from the pre-war and post-war periods up to the mid-1970s.
The collection grew over decades as a private initiative and eventually became one of the larger private vehicle museums in southern Germany. The factory building that now houses it dates from the 1960s and was adapted to serve as an exhibition space.
The collection puts a clear focus on Italian cars from Ferrari, Maserati, Lancia, and Alfa Romeo, all displayed side by side. Visitors can easily compare how the body shapes and engineering details of these makers changed from one decade to the next.
The museum is in Hersbruck and easy to reach by car, with parking available on the grounds. Anyone who wants to take a good look at the vehicles should plan for at least half a day.
Among the motorcycles is a 1959 MV Agusta GP 500 that once belonged to former world champion John Surtees. Surtees remains the only rider to have won world titles on both two and four wheels.
