Calverbühl, Natural monument in Dettingen an der Erms, Germany.
Calverbühl is a natural monument near Dettingen an der Erms rising approximately 509 meters with striking basalt rock formations visible across its slopes. A large lime tree crowns the summit and defines the hill's distinctive appearance.
A small chapel once stood on the hill before the Reformation around 1534, drawing regular visits from Dettingen residents during religious processions. The chapel disappeared but the site retained its spiritual significance.
The hill serves as a place for observing the natural landscape and understanding the geological diversity of the Swabian Alb. Visitors can experience the contrast between limestone and basalt formations directly in the landscape.
Multiple walking paths lead to the summit, including a front route and a back trail over rocky terrain with varying difficulty levels. Both paths offer viewpoints toward Stuttgart and the Erms Valley.
The site displays strong magnetic anomalies stemming from magnetite minerals in the basalt rocks, further enhanced by lightning strikes. These magnetic fields make the hill particularly interesting for those curious about geology and Earth sciences.
