Oedmühle, Historic watermill in Weigendorf, Germany.
The Oedmühle is a watermill building on the Etzelbach stream near Weigendorf in Bavaria. The structure now operates a Francis turbine for power generation, having previously relied on mechanical water wheels.
The mill was first documented in 1368 and served multiple purposes including grain milling, flax processing, and grinding work for centuries. Modernization with the Francis turbine occurred in the 20th century to improve operational efficiency.
The site functions as a learning center where visitors can observe how communities once harnessed water power for production. The setting demonstrates the importance of mills to local life and economy in earlier times.
The mill sits about 20 kilometers from Lauf and can be reached via the B14 highway or by train to Hartmannshof station. A walking path of roughly 20 minutes leads from the station to the site.
The building received the Bavarian Monument Protection Medal in 2013 following extensive restoration work completed between 2000 and 2002. This recognition honors the careful preservation of its historic structure alongside modern adaptations.
