Südpark, Public park in Solingen, Germany
The Südpark occupies a former railway station site and combines spacious green areas with preserved industrial structures within city limits. The grounds span several hectares and include both naturalized sections and modernized areas with art studios and cultural facilities.
The transformation of this site began in 2006 when the railway station closed and the land was repurposed. The redevelopment preserved industrial structures while establishing a center for contemporary art and culture.
The former freight halls now contain 16 art studios where painters, graphic designers, and sculptors work and display their creations year-round. Visitors can watch artists at work and discover their pieces directly in the studios.
The park has designated parking areas and connects to public transportation via a nearby bus stop and the Korkenziehertrasse cycling path. Visitors can explore the grounds on foot or by bicycle using the well-maintained paths.
Within the park is the Plagiarius Museum, which educates visitors about product piracy and trademark violations through an extensive collection of counterfeit goods. The museum is globally rare in its focus on fake items and serves as a cautionary exhibit.
