Martinskirche Christenberg

Martinskirche is a church from the 12th century with a Romanesque nave and a solid western tower built in that same period. A late Gothic choir was added later in the 16th century and shows how the building grew and changed over time.

The building was constructed during the Romanesque period and served as an important parish church for the region until church arrangements changed dramatically during the Reformation. This period of upheaval shaped the long-term development of the church and its community.

The building sits on a plateau in the northwest section of a cemetery where it is easily accessible. The thick walls and buttresses show the sturdy construction typical of churches from this era.

On the outside of the building stands a two-story stone structure from the 16th century, reached by an external staircase. This rare feature allowed preachers to speak from the outside and display objects of veneration to the community.
