Gut Horechtsfelde, Berliner Stadtgut in der Gemeinde Panketal
Gut Horechtsfelde is a former farm estate with barns, grain storage, and residential buildings from the early 1900s spread across a wooded area west of Panketal. The heritage-protected grain storage building has been thoroughly restored and now houses a visitor center with information about the site's history.
Berlin purchased the land in 1898 and began constructing a farm estate from 1906 to supply hospitals and the city with milk, meat, and grain. After World War II it became a state-owned operation, but lost economic importance from the 1980s onward and fell into disrepair until major restoration work between 2011 and 2014.
The farm once served as the heart of rural community life, providing work and homes for many local families who depended on its operations. Today it attracts visitors interested in learning how farming sustained the surrounding region and connected it to the city.
The estate is accessible by car with parking at the entrance and wide, well-maintained paths suitable for families with children. Visitors should wear comfortable shoes as exploration of the buildings, meadows, and adjacent woodland areas is done on foot.
The farm once operated a small private railway called the Hobrechtsfelder Wirtschaftsbahn that transported goods and people between the buildings and toward the city. Though it no longer exists, this railway shows how innovative and modern the operation was for its era.
