Bürgerpark Paunsdorf, Public park in northeastern Leipzig, Germany
Bürgerpark Paunsdorf is a public park in northeastern Leipzig built on the site of former agricultural and military grounds. The park features meadows, forests, and ponds that provide habitats for various animal species.
Development of the site began in 1999, transforming former agricultural and military grounds into a green space. This project was part of efforts to sustainably develop the eastern district of the city.
The name comes from the district of Paunsdorf where it is located. Today it serves as a gathering place where neighbors spend time together and families enjoy the outdoors.
A paved circular path of about 2.6 kilometers runs through the park with several viewing points. A viewing terrace on the southern edge is a good spot to observe animals and take a break.
The park is home to water buffalo and Przewalski horses that graze freely in the grasslands. These animals naturally help maintain open meadows by preventing forest overgrowth.
