Schloss Neukirchen, Renaissance water castle in Klaffenbach, Germany
Schloss Neukirchen is a water castle in Klaffenbach with a three-story main building surrounded by a water moat. A gatehouse and additional service buildings complete the compound and define its layout.
Wolf Hunerkopf built the castle between 1553 and 1557, establishing the original compound. Dietrich von Taube later expanded it with additional structures in 1616.
The castle serves as a venue for exhibitions, concerts, and puppet theater performances that visitors can experience throughout the year. This mix of events brings cultural activity into the historic setting.
The castle is open Tuesday through Sunday from 11 AM to 5 PM with a parking area providing about 350 spaces near the entrance. Visitors will find convenient parking close by.
In the 16th century the grounds housed industrial facilities including a brickyard, shepherds' quarters, and two mills along the Wurschnitz River. These features show the site once functioned as a working economic center beyond just the castle.
