Osram-Höfe, Industrial architectural complex in Wedding, Berlin.
The Osram-Höfe is a building complex in Berlin-Mitte featuring steel skeleton construction with clinker brick cladding on lower floors. The ensemble rises to a glass cubic structure topped by a 33 meter residential tower that defines the composition above.
The site was taken over in 1935 by OSRAM GmbH and converted into Europe's largest light bulb factory. The plant shaped industrial development in the Wedding district for decades.
The site now serves educational purposes and shows how a former industrial location has been repurposed for learning. Visitors walking through the courtyards can observe how the space has been transformed to host different institutions and training facilities.
The complex is located between Liebenwalder and Oudenarder streets in the Wedding district. The site is publicly accessible and includes a restaurant run by SOS Children's Village where visitors can find affordable meals.
The site preserves two original chimneys decorated with patterned brickwork that stand as reminders of its industrial past. These details are often overlooked but form important traces of the original factory structure.
