Donatsfriedhof Freiberg, Historical cemetery in Freiberg, Germany
The cemetery covers 63.8 hectares and features multiple entrances along Donatsring, Am Ostbahnhof street, and Hornstraße, near the medieval Donatsturm tower point.
Duke Heinrich der Fromme designated this location as the central burial site for Freiberg in 1531, following its initial establishment as a plague cemetery.
The site contains approximately 2600 burial plots and 150 historical sandstone gravestones, including the preserved Gerlach family vault from around 1700.
The cemetery reopened for new interments in 2014 after a partial closure in 1987, when burials were limited to previously purchased plots.
The oldest gravestone from 1676 displays an angel holding an inscribed cloth, representing early artistic funeral practices in the region.
