Donatsfriedhof Freiberg

Donatsfriedhof is a large burial ground in Freiberg with multiple entrances along different streets and a tower nearby. The site holds hundreds of burial plots, including family vaults and individual graves with sandstone monuments from various periods.

This burial ground was established in the 1500s when local leadership chose it as Freiberg's main cemetery. It later closed to new burials for several decades before reopening in 2014 to serve the community again.

One of the oldest monuments here dates to 1676 and features an angel carved holding a cloth with text. This artwork offers a glimpse into early local funeral customs and how people expressed grief through stone carving.
