Malzfabrik Niedersedlitz, Industrial monument in Niedersedlitz, Dresden, Germany
Malzfabrik Niedersedlitz is an industrial complex in Dresden with multiple buildings positioned between Reisstraße and Stephensonstraße. The structures display typical features of 19th-century industrial architecture and continue to define the district's character today.
The facility was founded in 1873 and developed under the Pick brothers into a modern malt production plant. It became Saxony's leading malt producer and remained a significant operation until the mid-20th century.
The factory was a major employer in Niedersedlitz and shaped the district's identity for generations of residents. Local workers took pride in the production and the prosperity it brought to their neighborhood.
The site is located at Straße des 17. Juni 21 and can be viewed from outside to study the industrial architecture. Note that parts of the complex have limited access due to fire damage in recent years.
The complex was connected to a tragic fate through Julia Pick, daughter of the factory owner, who took her life in 1942 to avoid deportation. Her story is part of the city's dark history during World War II.
