Mutter und Kind is a bronze sculpture in Gorden-Staupitz depicting a mother embracing and protecting her child through a tender hold. The figures stand in an outdoor setting and are cast in bronze with a calm and expressive composition.

Oswald Haberland, a bronze foundry master from Dresden, created the monument in 1926, 43 years after the death of his mother Auguste Haberland, who was born in Gorden in 1857 and died in 1883 at the age of 26. The artistic design is attributed by signature with high probability to the Dresden sculptor Richard Schnauder. The work was set up in the cemetery of Haberland's birthplace Gorden; the sculpture is a protected monument.

The sculpture depicts Auguste Haberland, born in Gorden in 1857, who died in 1883 at age 26; her son Oswald, the foundry master, created the monument in 1926. She is shown in poor clothing, asleep on a stack of pine logs with her head against a cross, her arms wrapped around her illegitimate son. The life-size bronze stands in a green area in Gorden's centre.

The sculpture stands in a green space laid out like a park in the centre of Gorden, in the municipality of Gorden-Staupitz in the Elbe-Elster district. It is a free-standing bronze, so it can be walked around and viewed from all sides; the seated figure and the cross are best seen up close. The urn with Oswald Haberland's ashes was placed on the cross of the monument.

Oswald Haberland had his own mother modelled: Auguste Haberland, born in Gorden in 1857, died in 1883 at 26. In 1926 he placed the monument in his birthplace's cemetery, and in 1947 his ashes were interred in an urn on its cross by his son Erich.
