Linden harbour lock, Listed lock in Hannover-Limmer, Germany

Linden harbour lock is a lock structure in Hannover-Limmer that allows boats to move between different water levels on the canal system. The building features sturdy stone walls and large metal gates that carefully control water flow and enable safe passage.

The lock was built between 1906 and 1916 as part of the Mittelland Canal construction project. It served as a connecting point to a branch canal and represented the region's growing investment in water transport infrastructure.

The lock carries the name of Linden Harbour because of its historical connection to the port area, even though it actually sits in the Limmer district. It remains a familiar landmark today for boaters and cyclists who use the canal routes regularly.

The lock is located on Harenberger Straße and is easily reached on foot or by bicycle via the popular canal paths. The surrounding walkways are well-maintained and offer spots to sit and watch boats passing through.

Few visitors realize that a lock keeper's house stands right beside the lock and has been occupied for many decades. This small building is a rare reminder of the infrastructure needed to run and monitor the lock on a daily basis.
