Volkshain Stünz, Heritage park in Anger-Crottendorf, Leipzig, Germany.
Volkshain Stünz is a park in Anger-Crottendorf that spans eleven hectares with open meadows connected by winding paths. The grounds include a large pond, trees of various kinds such as beech and maple, and multiple seating areas beneath mature growth.
The grounds were designed in 1894 by Carl Otto Wittenberg to create a recreation space in a rapidly growing district. This project took shape during a period of fast population growth in eastern Leipzig and served as a green counterbalance to urban density.
The name Volkshain reflects its purpose as a gathering place for local residents. Today it remains a green space where neighbors come to spend time outdoors and enjoy nature together.
The area offers various facilities including a playground with musical instruments and a boules court for games. Visitors can rest on numerous benches beneath mature trees or walk along the open paths.
The grounds preserve the Apelstein Stone Number 43, which marks the resting place of an East Prussian battalion during a historic event. This stone remains an overlooked witness to the past that many visitors miss.
