Landesirrenanstalt-Hauptanstalt, Mental health institution from 1908 in Teupitz, Germany.
The Landesirrenanstalt-Hauptanstalt is a medical complex built in 1908 in Teupitz that contains administrative buildings, staff residences, workshops, and a kitchen with a banquet hall. The facility includes eight separate hospitals for male and female patients arranged across the grounds.
The facility opened in 1908 with capacity for about 1050 patients and operated its own farm to supply food for the institution. It was later taken over by Asklepios Clinics and transformed into a modern hospital center.
The grounds show the architectural approach of early 20th-century institutional design, with buildings arranged in a pavilion style and connected by historical pathways. This layout reflects how hospitals of that era organized spaces to house patients in separate sections.
The site sits southwest of Teupitz city center, below Buchholzer Street, and is easily reached by car or bicycle. Walking through the grounds allows you to see the historical buildings and green spaces spread across the property.
The land was once used for wine cultivation during medieval times to supply the nearby Teupitz Castle with grapes. Imagining this agricultural past beneath today's buildings reveals the long settlement history of the location.
