Tauberfranken-Kaserne, Military barracks in Lauda-Königshofen, Germany
Tauberfranken-Kaserne is a military facility covering about 20 hectares in southern Lauda, bordered by local recreation areas and emergency services buildings. The grounds originally consisted of barracks buildings, administrative structures, and parade grounds arranged in a systematic military layout.
Construction of the facility began in 1963 and official inauguration took place in 1968 when it opened as an Air Force base. The installation served as an active military site for several decades before closing in 2004.
The barracks took its name from the Tauberfranken region of Baden-Württemberg, linking the site to the Main-Tauber-Kreis district. This geographical reference remains visible in how locals refer to the area.
The site today functions as an industrial park with limited public access for general visitors. Viewing the area is best done from the surrounding public roads that border the grounds.
The base housed specialized Air Force units including a radar control department and medical squadrons attached to telecommunications regiments. This technical focus made it more than a standard military barracks during its operational years.
