Agra, Park and cultural monument in Markkleeberg and Leipzig, Germany
Agra is a large park spreading across meadows and ponds with exhibition buildings and restaurants throughout its grounds. The space includes tree-lined areas and open fields connected by walking paths that lead visitors through different sections of the property.
Paul Herfurth purchased land in Raschwitz in the late 1800s to build a summer residence with a manor house and park designed in the English style. The property was later transformed into a venue for exhibitions and cultural activities.
The park houses the German Museum of Photography and the Tin Figure Museum, both showcasing collections that reflect long-standing local collecting traditions. Visitors can explore how these objects have been valued and displayed over time.
The park is accessible by tram line 11 to Dölitz Straßenbahnhof station and several S-Bahn connections in the surrounding area. Wear sturdy shoes for walking, as the grounds are extensive and exploring different areas requires significant walking distances.
The Dölitzer Mill, built in the 16th century, stands on the grounds and demonstrates traditional milling techniques through its original machinery. Visitors can observe how grain was once ground and see parts of the machinery still functioning.
