Alte Utting

The Alte Utting is a ship hoisted onto a railway bridge in Munich, featuring multiple levels with bars, stages, and outdoor areas. The vessel was originally built to float on water but now rests permanently above the street, serving as a venue for music and entertainment.

The ship was built in 1950 as a passenger vessel for a Bavarian lake and worked in this role for many years. In 2018 it was transported to Munich and lifted onto a bridge to begin its new life as a music and entertainment venue.

The venue brings together people from different backgrounds who gather here for live music and dancing. The mix of international visitors and locals creates an open and curious atmosphere that reflects the diversity of the city.

The venue is reached via stairs or an elevator since the ship sits high above the street. Visitors should wear comfortable shoes and be aware that it can be windy at the top, especially on the outdoor decks.

The ship was hoisted into its current position using massive cranes and is not supported by pillars or beams but essentially floats above the street. This technical feat makes it a surprising structural feature within Munich's urban landscape.
