Sankt Jakob

Sankt Jakob is a parish church in Dachau topped with an octagonal tower crowned by an onion dome reaching about 44 meters high. The building displays Baroque style features with an elegant facade that rises above the surrounding structures.

The current building was constructed between 1624 and 1625, replacing an earlier Gothic chapel from which only the sacristy survives today. This transformation occurred during a period when the region was redefining its architectural identity.

The church is named after Saint James the Apostle and shapes the skyline of the old town with its distinctive presence. Inside, visitors can observe religious artworks that reflect the spiritual traditions of the local community.

The church is easily reached on foot from the old town center and sits at a central location connecting multiple roads. Visitors should note that services take place at scheduled times, which may limit access during those periods.

On the south wall sits an 18th-century sundial that shows not only the time of day but also the current month and zodiac signs. This timekeeping device is a rare example of combining practical function with astronomical display.
