Wasserschloss is a water castle in Wolnzach featuring two stories with a hipped roof and an ornately structured portal crowned with a broken pediment. The building displays typical Baroque characteristics and sits prominently in the town center.
The castle was destroyed in 1632 during the Thirty Years War when Swedish troops burned it along with the town market. Reconstruction took place in 1697 with funds drawn from campaigns against Ottoman forces and supported by the Fugger von Schwindegg family.
Emperor Charles VII held strategic military consultations with his generals at the Wolnzach Castle during the Austrian Succession War in 1743.
The castle sits in the center of Wolnzach and is easy to reach on foot, with the surroundings offering pleasant walking through the historic old town. The grounds now serve as a public festival area providing space for local events and community gatherings.
