Piusheim

Piusheim is a three-story architectural complex with baroque revival styling, featuring two wings, hipped roofs, and a chapel built into the main structure. The buildings are arranged to create distinct functional areas within the overall ensemble.

It was constructed between 1912 and 1913 under Prince Regent Luitpold of Bavaria to serve orphaned youth from disadvantaged circumstances. Over time it evolved beyond its original purpose into a self-sufficient community with its own agricultural systems.

The chapel integrated into the main building holds around 200 people and received artistic renovations between 2011 and 2013 featuring works by Viktor Adraktas. This sacred space reflects how faith and community life remain central to the site.

The grounds are extensive and invite exploration to understand the full scope of the buildings and surrounding areas. Plan to spend adequate time here to fully appreciate the entire complex and its natural surroundings.

The site generates its own power from water, sun, and wood, operating at complete carbon neutrality. This energy approach is woven together with organic farming practices and year-round grazing systems into an integrated way of living.
