Burg Eggersberg

Burg Eggersberg is a medieval castle ruin perched on a limestone cliff approximately 440 meters above the valley. The surviving stone walls outline the original layout and defensive structure, while a rounded moat depression remains visible in the landscape.

The fortress first appeared in written records around 1326 and remained occupied for several centuries. Military conflicts in the region, particularly during the 15th century, accelerated its decline and eventual abandonment.

The chapel foundations on the site reveal how spiritual spaces were incorporated into castle life during the medieval period. Visitors can observe how faith and fortification were intertwined in the daily existence of those who lived here.

The site is open to the public and marked with information panels about the castle's past. The elevated location offers wide views of the surrounding valley, so visitors should prepare for variable weather and uneven ground.

The foundation stones consist of precisely fitted limestone blocks from the 12th century, showcasing skilled craftsmanship. This careful construction method allowed the builders to create stable structures anchored to the rocky terrain beneath.
