St. Georg Church is a Catholic parish church in Effeltrich that resembles a fortress, featuring four defensive towers, a 200-meter (656-foot) wall, and a covered walkway along its southern fortification. This unusual architecture shows the building was designed to protect the local population.

The fortified church was built in the late 1400s after Nuremberg troops raided Effeltrich twice, creating an urgent need for defense. This fortress-like structure became a response to the threats the community faced during that period.

The interior displays religious artworks spanning multiple centuries, including Gothic statues, a Baroque high altar, and a Rococo pulpit that show how the church evolved. These pieces reflect the changing tastes and devotion of the community across different periods.

The church is accessible daily and hosts regular Sunday services along with a cemetery on its grounds. Visitors should note the site is located in a quiet village and is best reached on foot.

Every Easter Monday, the Georgi-Ritt horse procession honors Saint George, the patron saint of the church, in a centuries-old ritual. This event remains a living tradition that connects the community to its past.
