Adam-Kraft-Realschule, Realschule in Hummelstein, Nuremberg, Germany

Adam-Kraft-Realschule is a municipal Realschule in Nuremberg's Hummelstein district, named after the sculptor and master builder Adam Kraft. It began in 1967 in the 1907/08 schoolhouse at Lutherplatz 4 and became independent in 1969. North of the old building, an annex with all-day school, after-school care and a gross floor area of 9,735 square metres was completed between January 2007 and July 2009, later raised by one storey.

The school began on 7 September 1967 as a branch of the Veit-Stoß-Realschule, housed in the 1907/08 school building at Lutherplatz 4 in the Hummelstein district, to absorb rising pupil numbers. It became independent on 1 January 1969, and a Nuremberg city council decision of 10 March 1969 named it after the sculptor and master builder Adam Kraft. A temporary pavilion went up in the schoolyard in August 1973, and the old building was fully renovated by 1974.

The school is named after Adam Kraft, the Nuremberg sculptor and master builder, following a city council decision of 10 March 1969. Its strong musical orientation shows in the Personal Focus: in grades 5 and 6 pupils join a brass, choir, percussion, dance or theatre class for a monthly fee. From grade 7 they choose from other, also non-musical options.

The school stands at Lutherplatz 4 in the Hummelstein district, with a large annex built north of the old 1907/08 building between 2007 and 2009. The site lies near Nuremberg's public transport network. As an operating school, visits should be arranged in advance with the administration.

The school has no bell to mark the start or end of lessons; pupils keep track of time themselves, part of a concept built on independence and personal responsibility. Since 2017 the 2009 annex has had an extra floor, and the dining hall was extended between 2014 and 2015, works costing around 4.75 million euros.
