The church features a three-sided choir and stands as a central structure within the village of Zaschendorf in northern Germany.
The original church contained Renaissance paintings on its wooden ceiling until August 1991, when the main nave of the building collapsed.
Following the structural failure, the exterior walls were dismantled and the half-timbered church underwent complete reconstruction to preserve religious heritage.
The church belongs to the municipality of Kuhlen-Wendorf, which merged in 2004 from the former separate communities of Kuhlen and Wendorf.
The reconstruction project maintained the architectural character of the original structure while incorporating modern building techniques for stability.
