Europabrunnen, Heritage fountain in Königsheimplatz, Dresden, Germany
Europabrunnen is a heritage monument in Dresden featuring a central bronze sculpture group, surrounded by a tall sandstone wall and water basins. The installation forms an enclosed plaza that presents the fountain as the focal point of a public green space.
The work was created in 1922 by Professor Georg Wrba when Dresden incorporated the Blasewitz district. The original bronze figures disappeared during wartime, with new ones created later.
The name draws from ancient mythology, with the fountain installation telling the story of a goddess transformed by the power of love. Visitors can experience this classical narrative directly in how the square is designed and presented today.
The fountain sits on a public plaza that is easily accessible on foot and remains open during daylight hours. The space works well for a stroll and a quick visit, particularly in good weather.
The bronze figures you see today date to 1995 and were redesigned by Lothar Janus after wartime loss. This reconstruction shows how artworks come back to life after destruction.
