'Blaues Haus', Cultural heritage building in Hofheim am Taunus, Germany.
The Blaues Haus is a building with a blue half-timber facade located at Kapellenstraße 11 in Hofheim am Taunus. It features a garden terrace and served as both a residence and an art collection space.
Hanna Bekker vom Rath acquired the house in 1920 and transformed it into a safe place for artists during a turbulent period. The collection eventually became an important archive for modern artworks that faced threats elsewhere.
The house served as a refuge where artists gathered and their works found a home. The collection grew from a passion for modern art and a desire to preserve and share these creations with others.
The building is privately owned and not open to the public for visits. You can see the house from outside in Hofheim's old town, where its blue facade makes it easy to spot from the street.
Inside the house was a red room where expressionist artworks hung against deep red walls. This special space was an early example of how exhibition design could unite the room itself with the art displayed within it.
