St. Pius

St. Pius is a Catholic church in the Zollstock district of Cologne that blends late Gothic elements with Renaissance and Baroque features. Its distinctive tower, built in 1956, shapes the neighborhood's skyline.

Construction took place between 1913 and 1915 under architect Eduard Endler, with Cardinal Felix von Hartmann consecrating it in May 1915. The church was built during a period of significant expansion in Cologne's western areas.

The church houses modern artworks such as Wilhelm Buschulte's piece on the choir wall and colored glass windows in the nave, which shape the interior. These artistic elements create a distinctive atmosphere when entering the space.

The church is easily reached by tram line 12 or bus 131, with stops near Gottesweg station. The area is pedestrian-friendly and the building is located in a residential neighborhood that invites a relaxed visit.

The bell tower contains seven bells that form one of the largest carillons in the city. Only Cologne Cathedral has a more extensive bell system.
