Schloss Spreewiese, Heritage castle in Großdubrau, Germany.
Schloss Spreewiese is a manor house in Großdubrau that combines different building styles and periods. The structure shows traces of several renovations and modifications that were made over the centuries.
The manor house was built in 1557, replacing an earlier water castle that stood on this site. In 1729, it underwent major alterations under Friedrich Caspar Graf von Gersdorff.
The castle stands in Spreewiese, a region historically inhabited by Sorbian people, reflecting the cultural diversity of Upper Lusatia in eastern Saxony.
The property is located at Schloßweg 1 and serves as both a residence and a venue for events. Tours can be arranged by contacting ahead, particularly for weddings and special occasions.
Following expropriation in 1945 and a period as a multi-family residence, the property was acquired by architect Paul Wehrle-Nielsen in 1997 and extensively restored. This revival saved the building from neglect and gave it a second life.
