Kirche Mockrehna, Church building in Mockrehna, Saxony.
Kirche Mockrehna is a fieldstone church with a rectangular tower and rounded apse in the Saxon town of Mockrehna. A conical roof crowns the tower, while the nave runs about 24 meters long and 10 meters wide.
The first written mention dates from 1198, when the settlement already had a Christian congregation. In 1705 the tower received its current baroque form through major reconstruction work.
The name comes from a Slavic settlement term that reflects the early inhabitants of this area. Today the building serves Protestant worship and has welcomed Catholic ceremonies as well since the end of World War II.
The interior can be visited during services that take place regularly throughout the week. Access is through the main entrance on the west side of the tower.
Three bells hang in the tower from different eras, including a bronze bell cast in 1662. The second bell made of steel was cast in 1922 to replace one taken during World War I.
