Bohlenplatz, Historic square in Erlangen, Germany
Bohlenplatz is a public square in Erlangen with dimensions of roughly 200 by 80 meters, divided into two distinct sections. The space includes planted areas, a children's playground, a former church building, and university administration structures.
The square received its name in 1872 from a timber construction yard where Polish carpenters were employed. This renaming marked a shift in how the place was perceived and used.
The Kreuz+Quer Haus der Kirche at this location serves as a gathering space for religious events and community activities of the Evangelical Lutheran congregation. Local residents and visitors use this venue regularly for meetings and church-related programs.
A footpath and cycle path divide the square into two zones, with the eastern section designed for play and recreation. The grounds are easy to navigate with clear paths suitable for walking and cycling.
An artesian well drilled between 1864 and 1869 reached a depth of 222 meters at this location. The installation ceased operation in 1945 because water production proved insufficient for practical use.
