Gut Zeisigberg, Herrenhaus in Deutschland
Gut Zeisigberg is a manor house with outbuildings set in the woodland of the Schlaubetal valley near Müllrose. The estate features historic buildings with Art Nouveau details such as decorative stonework and colored glass windows, some protected as heritage sites, now used as a kindergarten and senior home.
The estate was built in the early 1900s by a Berlin health insurance company as a lung sanatorium and opened in 1907. It was the first lung sanatorium project built by a local health insurance fund in Germany and treated many patients with respiratory diseases there.
The name Zeisigberg comes from the siskin bird native to the surrounding forests. Today the estate brings together two generations, where kindergarten children and seniors regularly meet for shared activities and learn from each other through an intentional intergenerational dialogue program.
The grounds lie within woodland next to the Schlaubetal Nature Park and offer a calm place to explore historic architecture. The property is easily reached on foot, with a romantic stream valley and walking paths enhancing the natural setting.
The grounds once featured a small animal cemetery where patients could bury deceased pets during their stays, marked with small stones and sometimes humorous verses. This unique tradition began in the 1920s and provided patients with a quiet place for reflection and community during their lengthy recovery.
