Ölhafenbrücke Raunheim, Pedestrian bridge in Raunheim, Germany
The Ölhafenbrücke Raunheim is a white steel footbridge that arches 170 meters across the oil harbor entrance with a distinctive circular ramp. It provides direct crossing for pedestrians and cyclists over the harbor area.
Construction of the bridge in 2014 replaced a lengthy detour around the tank storage area that had been in place since 1965. This created a direct connection that shortened the daily route for many residents.
The bridge received the German Urban Development Award in 2014 for its architectural design by Schneider + Schumacher firm.
Plan for the spiraling ramp when crossing, which is easy to walk but takes a bit longer than a straight path. LED lights in the handrails illuminate the bridge surface and sides, especially helpful during dusk or evening hours.
A protective steel wall on the harbor side shields pedestrians from the highly flammable materials stored in nearby tanks. This shows how the bridge serves not just as a passage but also as a safety barrier for daily users.
