Stadtkirche Preetz

The Stadtkirche Preetz stands on a hill above Kirchsee lake, featuring late Romanesque fieldstone architecture and baroque architectural elements throughout its structure.

Built between 1200 and 1210 as a fortified church, the building marked the Saxon border through Schwentine and Kirchsee during the Christianization period of Europe.

The church interior contains a 13th-century Romanesque baptismal font, Renaissance chandeliers from the 16th century, and bronze crowns from the 17th century.

Visitors can attend regular services, concerts, and special events like the annual Christmas concert, which celebrates its tenth anniversary in December 2024.

A floating baptismal angel from the 18th century hangs inside the church, representing a distinctive element of religious art from the baroque period.
