Pfarrkirche St. Martinus, Catholic church in Oberstadion, Germany

Pfarrkirche St. Martinus is a late Gothic hall church in Oberstadion, built from 1470 by Wilhelm and Burkhart von Stadion and consecrated in 1482. Its white facade with red tile roof has a gabled section with tiered arched niches and oval windows, while a square tower with a black domed cupola and red clock stands to the right. Inside, a net-ribbed vault spans the nave, and six side chapels between buttresses make it appear three-aisled.

Wilhelm and Burkhart von Stadion began building the late Gothic hall church in 1470; it was roofed by 1473 and consecrated at Easter 1482 by Konstanz bishop Otto IV von Sonnenberg. In 1585 the two eastern north chapels were widened and a count's crypt chapel added beneath, followed a century later by a south transept. A 1808 tower-roof fire was only repaired in 1846 with a new tower top; the furnishings were regothicised between 1865 and 1880.

The church keeps late Gothic sculptures and panel paintings of the Ulm School, made in the second half of the 15th and early 16th century. The high altar combines a neo-Gothic frame with panels by Jörg Stocker and figures of the Ulm School; two double-sided panels turn on their central axis to show saints on one face and the Carrying of the Cross and the Entombment on the other. The choir stalls were carved in 1486 by Jörg Syrlin the Younger, whose bench ends carry small animal figures and skulls.

The church stands in the village centre; the cemetery beside the choir gives access to the St. Anna crypt chapel beneath the elevated sacristy. From the sacristy a staircase leads down into the choir. A closed bridge-like passage runs from outside onto the south wall of the right transept, crossing a cemetery path.
