Lechstaustufe 18 – Kaufering

The Lechstaustufe 18 power station stands at 569.5 meters elevation, utilizing three Kaplan turbines to generate electricity from the Lech River flow.

Established in 1975, this power station became an essential component of regional energy infrastructure, producing 16.7 megawatts through water management systems.

The reservoir area spans 75 hectares, providing recreational spaces for local fishing groups and outdoor activities along the eastern Lechleite elevation.

The facility generates approximately 80 million kilowatt-hours annually, contributing renewable energy to the surrounding communities through the local power grid.

In 2015, the installation of a 2.2 million euro fish ladder enhanced the river ecosystem by enabling fish migration through the barrage system.
