Tenter Bach und Bökerbach, Nature reserve in Remscheid, Germany.
Tenter Bach und Bökerbach is a nature reserve in Remscheid featuring two separate stream systems, floodplains, and wet meadows bordered by steep hillsides. The water courses wind naturally through valleys at elevations ranging from 235 to 320 meters.
The reserve was first designated in 1983 and formally established in 2003, absorbing the former smaller Bökerhöhe nature reserve. This expansion unified the protection of the stream landscapes in this part of Remscheid.
Local residents walk through the wet meadows and stream valleys to observe native plants and water habitats in their natural state. The place shows how local nature looks and changes with the seasons throughout the year.
Visitors can walk through the reserve on established hiking paths that are easy to access from southeastern Remscheid. The proximity to the A1 motorway makes reaching the area straightforward, though the location is removed from the city center.
The streams form natural meandering courses with varied banks, gravel bars, and diverse plant communities that stand out from engineered waterways. This natural stream pattern is uncommon in an industrialized urban region.
