Weiherwiesen nature reserve spans 27.85 hectares, featuring two ponds, surrounding meadows, and karst formations in the northern Albuch region of Swabian Jura.
Archaeological findings from the Middle Bronze Age, including burial mounds and settlement artifacts, indicate early human presence in the Weiherwiesen area.
The reserve served as a central location for sheep washing, with records indicating up to 20,000 sheep were brought annually for this traditional practice.
The nature reserve contains marked paths allowing visitors to observe native plant species, including orchids, buttercups, and various marsh vegetation.
A sinkhole formation called Weiherschlauch absorbs the water from Weiherbach stream after a short flow through the protected wetlands.
