Dreispitz, Aluminum sculpture in Binzen, Germany.
Dreispitz is an aluminum installation at a roundabout in Binzen, consisting of three metal forms rising steeply upward. The sculpture sits in a circular gravel bed and prominently marks the intersection of this traffic node.
The artwork was created in 2001 by artist Reinhard Bombsch with support from the Sparkasse Markgräflerland foundation. It was realized during Mayor Ulrich May's administration as part of the city's development.
The name references the three-way border area, and this meaning becomes apparent through the sculpture's three upward-pointing forms. Visitors recognize in it a symbol of a place where different paths converge.
The artwork is located on a busy roundabout connecting two major traffic routes. Visitors should be cautious and pay attention to traffic when approaching the sculpture or taking photographs.
Safety concerns about the structure once nearly led to its removal, sparked by local residents who gathered substantial support for their worries. The sculpture was ultimately preserved after significant safety improvements were implemented.
