Tierpark Freiberg, Municipal zoo in Freiberg, Germany
Tierpark Freiberg is a public animal park spread across about 13 hectares with around 170 animals including red deer, fallow deer, mouflon, and domestic pig breeds. The grounds feature various enclosures and specialized areas designed for different animal types and visitor interactions.
The facility opened in 1958 and underwent major renovations starting in 2003, beginning with improvements to the waterfowl area. These updates have continuously improved what visitors experience when they arrive.
The park serves as a learning space where school groups and kindergartens come to observe animals up close and understand local wildlife. This function has made it an important stop for children discovering the natural world.
The park welcomes visitors from 9:00 to 17:00 between April and October, then from 9:00 to 15:30 from October to April, with no admission charge. Weekday visits tend to be quieter than weekends, which can be crowded with families.
The grounds contain a specialized aviary complex housing various parakeet species that birdwatchers find particularly appealing. Children also get hands-on experience with rabbits and guinea pigs in the Bambini petting area.
