The building served as a salt production facility during the time when Bad Kissingen developed as a spa town. It documents the industrial past of the region and its emergence as a health destination.
The Spielzeugwelt section, opened on 8 December 2011 on the museum's top floor, shows children's book illustrations and handmade toys from the Rhön region and from around the world. It was planned over two years before opening.
The museum is easily accessible on foot and features multiple exhibition levels. The varied themes allow visitors to move between sections based on their interests and explore at their own pace.
The Bismarck-Museum opened on 30 July 1998, the centenary of Bismarck's death, and keeps his flat with its original furnishings. He stayed in this building during his spa visits between 1876 and 1893. The former Salinenkirche, redecorated for Empress Auguste Viktoria's 1889 stay, now serves as a temporary exhibition room.
