Pfarrkirche St. Magnus

Pfarrkirche St. Magnus is a three-nave church in Bad Schussenried with sturdy pillars supporting the structure and a 55-meter tower. Large windows flood the stone interior with light, revealing the architectural details and vaulted ceilings.

Construction began in 1185, and the building underwent major renovations during the 15th century under Abbot Heinrich Osterreicher, who added Gothic expansions. These changes established the main features seen today.

The ceiling frescoes depict scenes from Saint Norbert of Xanten's life, painted between 1745 and 1746. These religious narratives draw visitors' eyes upward and become part of the spiritual experience inside.

The church is accessible year-round except on Thursdays until 3 PM when cleaning takes place. Plan your visit on other weekdays or afternoons to explore without interruption.

The choir stalls were crafted between 1715 and 1717 from walnut and lime wood, displaying 24 saint figures and scenes from Mary's life. These intricate carvings represent skilled craftsmanship that visitors often overlook.
